The information presented here comes from the Proceedings of the Adventurers, an archive held by the Cambridgeshire Archives in Ely (return to the main page to see more details). The transcription of the archive and creation of this walk were funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
In this walk you will see two great rivers created by the Company of Adventurers in the 17th century; the Old Bedford River and 100 Foot River and the transformation of the Fens from a wild and wet landscape to one of ownership, engineering and exclusion. These difficulties include floods, resistance by the commoners and the challenge of managing an enormous workforce.
